August 25, 2010 – Director of Nursing receives national award Peg Knox named AHCA's 2010 DD Hero of the Year...Margaret "Peg" Knox, Director of Nursing Services at Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, has been named the American Health Care Association's 2010 Developmental Disabilities Hero of the Year. She will be honored at the Awards Gala on October 13 during the Association's 61st Annual Convention and Exposition in Long Beach, California.
Knox has been a member of Cedarcrest Center's clinical staff for more than 41 years. She is receiving the prestigious national award in recognition of her extraordinary commitment and dedication to helping people with developmental disabilities. Peg's commitment to making Cedarcrest Center a home first and foremost has earned her the deep respect of residents' families and direct care staff alike. She works tirelessly to create a home away from home where each child is loved, cared for, and ensured the opportunity to do all the things children do. Residents' families universally recognize Peg's dedication to ensuring that their child gets the best possible care.
Says Cedarcrest Center CEO, Cathy Gray, "Peg would consider what she has done for the children of Cedarcrest Center as 'all in a day's work,' but her accomplishments are really a life's work of love. For her work of love, Peg deserves to be recognized as a true hero."
The nation's largest association of long-term and post-acute care providers, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) advocates for quality care and services for the more than 1,000,000 individuals who are elderly, frail, or developmentally disabled served by its 11,000 member facilities. The DD Hero of the Year Award is presented annually to an employee, family member, volunteer, or community member who has touched the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

June 10, 2010 – Cedarcrest Center: Celebrating 20 Years in Keene |
|
May 17, 2010 – Celebrating a new home . . . Looking back 20 years
On June 10, 2010, at 5:30 p.m., Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities will celebrate twenty years in Keene with a gala reception and program for friends and neighbors in the community. Cedarcrest CEO, Cathy Gray, will offer insight into how the Center's programs have evolved in the past 20 years and what challenges lie ahead. She will also recognize individuals and businesses who have continued to support the Center financially from its Westmoreland days to the present. A highlight of the evening will be a presentation by Alan Rumrill, Executive Director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County, who will provide an historical perspective on the care and education of special needs children in the region.
In its 43rd year, in early June 1990, Cedarcrest (as it was known then) moved from a farmhouse in Westmoreland to a newly-constructed state-of-the-art home and school on Maple Avenue in Keene. In the intervening 20 years, Cedarcrest's name has changed (to Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities), and the "new" building has undergone significant expansion and renovation to further strengthen the high-tech, high-touch care and special education that are so important for children with complex medical and developmental needs, and that are the Center's hallmark.
"Keene is a warm and vibrant community – and we have thrived here," commented Cedarcrest CEO Cathy Gray, "and it has provided wonderful opportunities for the children we care for. We are also grateful to many members of this community for their work as volunteers and for their generous financial contributions. We look forward to celebrating our 20 years in Keene with them June 10." |
